I've had some amazing Chinese food in my life. I've been lucky enough to enjoy five-star dining in San Francisco, home-style in Seattle, authentic in San Diego, and found one awesome place in Phoenix even, and Fortune Wok doesn't even approach the same level of food. Now I didn't expect Fortune Wok to reach for those heights, but I also didn't expect the bland, colorless, and relatively uninspired food that I found at Fortune Wok today. I came here after reading the reviews; especially after one person said it had the best egg drop soup ever tasted! Apparently they haven't had many versions because Shangri La in Phoenix still holds that record for me. We tried the crab rangoon, which pretty much tasted like crab salad mixed with potato salad, had very uninspired egg rolls that really lacked a distinctive flavor and the egg drop soup, which was bland and very heavy on the corn starch. When our meals arrived, pork chow mein and mu shu shrimp, I was actually amazed. Amazed that Chinese food could look and taste so bland. The vegetables had no color, the chow mein had chunks of what looked like ham, the shrimp looked as if it was frozen, and tasted and felt frozen as well. The whole meal seemed bland, watery, and entirely without color. The only flavor was that of the plum sauce. I guess we will continue to look for a good Chinese place.

I was in the area and thought I would check them out because of all the great reviews. I must say I was a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong the food wasn't horrible,it was basically just like any other Chinese restaurant in the area. The lo mein was good, the fried rice was average and the egg roll was decent. I was disappointed with the mandarin chicken, not so much the taste, but the fact they gave so little. The takeout container was barely half full. After spending around 15 dollars on one meal plus two egg rolls,I was disappointed. Since this was my first visit,it could be that they had an off night. It was late and they would be closing in 30 minutes. Should I be in the area again,i will give them another chance to redeem themselves.

I love this place! Food is averagely priced but you get a lot for what you pay for, and very tasty! Great fried rice. Lunch specials are a good deal for soup, rice, and a meal of choice for around $6 or $7. The lady who owns it is always super friendly and helpful. Worth it to get tasty china food here instead of going down the street to Panda. Similar prices, way different quality. I definitely recommend this place!

We love this place! It's just a good old greasy spoon Chinese spot. My fav is the Singapore noodles. Always made fresh and yummy. Everyone is offered soup at lunch no matter what they order. The lunch specials are super and come with the most delish fried rice. Great service and friendly wait staff. Our water glasses were kept full the entire time. Perfect place for a quick lunch or dinner.

For normal Chinese-American food, this place has done it well. The portions were perfect, prices were great. Food quality was very good and the service was spot on as well. We will be back.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
